No one will notice it isn't Vietnam?

Watching "The Green Berets" on TV. Even though I've been to Viet Nam, I never realized how much it looks just like Fort Benning, GA! lol So many pine trees and sandy terrain. What were they thinking? "Let's make a movie about a war being fought in the wet, rainy jungles of Viet Nam, but shoot it in the pine forests of Fort Benning! No one will notice."

Actually, the terrain in Vietnam is pretty diverse; it's not all wet, rainy jungles. There are humid jungles, to be sure, but there are also swampy rice paddies, mountains, plains, coastlines, forests, and woods. Granted, the Fort Benning vicinity is pushing it, but much of Vietnam isn't that much different from much of the U.S.

Surprised they didn't try filming in Hawaii to simulate a jungle environment.
