Pines, Birches and Oaks.....in Vietnam?

I've never been to Vietnam, but if it's anything like Panama where I served for 3 years, they got the tropical locale totally wrong. The did a much better job shooting the Vietnam scenes in Forrest Gump down on the gulf coast.

True very true, but the resources provided by the Army were at Ft. Benning and Ft. McClellen hence the Pines, Birches and Oaks.
I am still waiting for a US produced Vietnam War movie that is actually filmed in Vietnam.

Like ... Apocalypse Now?

reply

Apocalypse Now was filmed in Philipines. Just like almost every other Vietnam War Movie. Jungle war movies are filmed in Philipines, Desert (Middle East setting) war movies are filmed in Northern Africa (countries vary)

Yes to the pines:

The five-leaf (pinus exce/sa wall), which can withstand a very cold climate, concentrates in Lam Dong-Da Lat and the southwest of Thua Thien-Hue.
The flat-leaf (pinus ducampo Krempfii) concentrates in Khanh Hoa and Ninh Thuan.
The three-leaf (pinus Khasya rogle) is abundant in Lam Dong, Daklak, Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Ha Giang and Son La. This pine tree grows well in temperature ranges between 15 and 24 degrees Celsius.
The twin-leaf grows mainly in Lam Dong-Da Lat, Kon Turn, Daklak, Gia Lai, Thua Thien - Hue, Ha Bac and Ha Tay. The best temperature for its growth is 24 to 27 degrees Celsius.
The horse tail concentrates in Lang Son, Lai Chau, Vinh Phuc, Quang Ninh, and Cao Bang. It grows well in temperature ranges from 21 to 22 degrees Celsius.

There is an oak tree of 610 years near Ba Om Pond in Tra Vinh City.

In Vietnam there is also the Phong ba birch tree. And many more.

Yes, all three types of trees grow in Vietnam.
