Barbra Streisand wins "Oscar" in her first film role

BARBRA STREISAND was outstanding with her stunning portrayal of Fanny Brice in the hit Broadway show "Funny Girl". The film was awaited with great anticipation after all the tremendous publicity given to the show. This was one of those rare occasions when the perfect part came along with the perfect star to play it and Barbra made the film a box office success. "Funny Girl" received a total of eight Oscar nominations but only picked up the one (for Best Actress) which Barbra had to share with Katharine Hepburn for "The Lion in Winter". "Funny Girl" had a marvellous collection of songs including "People", "Second Hand Rose", "Don't Rain on My Parade", "My Man", and "I'm the Greatest Star". Favourite line: Barbra Streisand (to reflection in theatre mirror backstage): "Hello, gorgeous".

Hi Clive...just read your review of "Funny Girl". I agree with you on this one; however it was a tad better than "Funny Lady"..perhaps it was the cast..James Caan in a musical?? You certainly keep busy. See ya..Pat Williamson
