are they any good?


its my friends 18th so i wanna get her the boxset of Flesh, Trash and Heat. she hasnt seen any of these films but LOVES all things 60 and is a HUGE movie fan. are they good films?

They are countercultural classics of that era, an era very different from the present one.

Well, I think they're important films. They're a transition from the improvisation of Lonesome Cowboys to the more or less scripted satire of Heat (which moves us into the 70s by the way).

What other options are there? The Dirk Bogarde box set (The Mind Benders, The Servant, and Accident) maybe? That has a sci-fi flick and two Losey/Pinter collaborations. It wouldn't be a bad choice either. As challenging as they are, they're a damn sight more polished than the Little Joe trilogy.

Now, neither one are West Side Story, The Music Man, and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.

In other words, it really depends on how avant-garde her tastes run. Is her love of the 60s nostalgia for her childhood or is it nostalgia for iconoclasm?

Anyway, I guess you've had several years to decide? Did she like the gift? ;)
