Wasn't Maria beautiful??

She looked like a meld of Kirsten Dunst and Elke Sommers, and maybe Tuesday Weld. In any case, she was one of the most beautiful blondes I've seen in a movie.

I agree, Veronica Carlson was beautiful in this film.

Thirded. Stunning looking woman and ravishing hair as well.

It's a shame Veronica Carlson didn't do a lot lot of other stuff. I saw her in an episode of The Saint and an episode of Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) but apart from the few Hammer films and the odd t.v episode she didn't do much, sadly. One of the most beautiful women to have ever become an actress. There is nobody around in film with her beauty today.

Yes Veronica CERTAINLY was wasn't she....she's living somewhere in the Carolinas now, isn't she?

Psst: hey Dave: Sharks, Dinosaurs, World War 2---and Hammer Glamour Gals...ain't we a couple of 'Renaissance Men', eh?

reply

From her Wikipedia page:

"She now lives in South Carolina with her husband and three children and is a professional painter."

Glad to see there are others beside myself who appreciate her natural beauty!

I totally agree with you - she was gorgeous! Veronica Carlson is my favourite Hammer actress. I love her so much that I am now even starting to look for other films on DVD in which she starred. She appeared in the The Saint too (which I am pleased to say I have) and Randall and Hopkirk.

It was sad in Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed, where she got killed.

I totally agree with you about Maria. She certainly was exceedingly beautiful! In fact, this was the movie that first got me to becoming a fan of Veronica Carlson. I went on to watch this lovely lady in all her other Hammer movies. The one that saddened me, though, was Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed, where her character Maria dies at the end, (scalpeled in the stomach by Baron Frankenstein).

I agree with all of you: she is simply stunning! When the Count comes to her room and starts to nibble on her neck (what a boner he must have had!) she looks absolutely ravishing! Her beautiful shiny hair, soft, smooth skin, her luscious lips and inviting eyes...Man she's a doll in this film!

reply

Yes but Veronica didn't quite have the 'wonder-bra-lift' in this movie that she had in 'Frankenstein must be Destroyed" & "Horror of Frankenstein";

^In which case I'll have to look for those other movies that she's in! lol

I suggest 'Horror of Frankenstein' first; Kate O'Mara is no slouch in the neckline department either...

I will be looking for that... especially what with Halloween not too far away. Thanks for the reco.

reply

I'll definitely have to look for her other movies.

She was unusually beautiful, in a Sharon Tate-ish way. Loved her hair!

But what a difference 40 years makes, huh? Today you wouldn't expect to see the beautiful heroine weeping weeping weeping, being dragged around and just standing there in her nightgown shivering like a lump. Waiting for The Hero to rescue her. Today, the beautiful heroine would have pushed the Count over onto the crucifix all by herself, at the very least.

Ah, if you like them Hammer Girls sort of dark & sleazy, the DEFINITELY check out Kate O'Mara in 'Horror of Frankenstein'

Eehh. She was cute, certainly. But she seemed to just be the garden variety blonde-type. A little too innocent and virginal in the story.

But don't forget it was set over 100 years ago in the early 1900s. They were just coming out of the late Victorian era. Lots of young women were like then....although I doubt that any would have looked as ravishing as Veronica Carlson back then.

I also think Linda Hayden in Taste The Blood of Dracula is another cutie. Not quite as gorgeous as Veronica, but still a real cutie.

You had to love those Hammer girls.

Hammer's best blonde in my opinion. She still does not top Hazel Court though.

The most gorgeous girl ever to appear in any vampire film. Ever.
