Like who else? I saw no road up to the castle (which makes no sense--how could a castle be built in the mountains if there is no access to it but climbing up a rocky trail?) or anyone else who got there by horse/carriage. Maybe you are talking about the previous movie.

Now that I think about it, the Monsignor had his own carriage and horse. Why didn't they use that to ascend the mountain? Of course the answer is for plot effect. The priest had to be worn out from his climb (and in poor shape due to his alcoholism and control by Dracula)in order to remain where he did and fall exactly where his blood would drip upon Dracula's mouth.
