Did Christopher Lee get this movie made?

i seem to recall reading/hearing somewhere, that Christopher Lee was either a good friend of Dennis, or a fan of his writing. So Lee used his influence, with Hammer, ( who were not really interested at first ) to get this movie made . Anyone else heard this or know if it is true..?

thanks, i think Chris Lee did a lot "behind the scenes" to get a few of his favorite books made, into movies ( he was also friends with JRR Tolkein)

There is actually an extra feature on a DVD, ( I think it is Dracula Prince Of Darkness special edition ) Where Christopher Lee gives an interview about his time at Hammer and working with Mr Fisher, which may be of interest to you.

In the "Making of" documentary on TO THE DEVIL A DAUGHTER (it's called "To the Devil: The Death of Hammer"), Christopher Lee talks about befriending Dennis Wheatley and championing a Hammer adaptation of his occult novels back in 1963. THE DEVIL RIDES OUT wasn't made until 1968, but Wheatley really enjoyed it, and told Lee that Hammer could produce any other of his films free of charge. They optioned "The Satanists" and "To the Devil A Daughter because of that, but only the latter was ever made.
