Leon Greene............... SOLVED ........

I have watched this film dozens of times as it is Hammer at its best, however, each time I see Leon Greene I get the feeling that his voice is dubbed. I know he is an Aussie, so I wondered if Hammer thought the voice was not up to scratch as the rest of the cast speak beautiful English.
Anyone else noticed this?
PATRICK ALLEN DID THE VOICEOVER FOR REX!

Just watched this and you are correct- Patrick Allen is the voiceover, starange as his voice was so well known in the U.K.

Additional and relevant trivia is that Patrick Allen was the real life husband of Sarah Lawson who played Marie Eaton in this film.

I liked Leon Greene, however under the circumstances they may as well have had Patrick Allen play the part!

reply

The thing was they liked Greene's look, broad shoulders, ugly-handsome mug, etc, just as Dennis Wheatley describes the character, but they wanted an American accent... 'Cest la vie!

Yes but if they wanted an American accent then why have him dubbed by Patrick Allen who isn't American?

reply

Ah, touche, this i dont know, but it was done well enough all the same...

I suppose Greene was ockering it around the set like a soaking wet Kevin Bloody Wilson: "Oh cripes, the poms're gonna sacrifice a black Suffolk!" and Fisher had his head in his hands muttering, "This is SO non-bona."

Lol!

reply

Leon Greene was dubbed because someone thought his voice was too "musical" (he is/was an opera singer, I believe).
