I can't see it happening unfortunately as Dennis Wheatley's style of satanic horror is so unfashionable these days. Modern horror films consist almost entirely of torture porn and teens-in-peril and I can't see the studios being interested in something so low on gore.
shareWell put, todays horror films are gore above atmosphere. For me,only Dorian Gray came close to being what i would call a 'proper' horror film...
Call me Ishmael...
They also don't know how to build a set these days, all these close shots and muted tones. The set designers at Hammer made some of the most balanced and color-coordinated sets I've ever seen.
There ain't no Hebrew God, Ozzy's God!
Good point, never really thought what made hammer films so good.....
Call me Ishmael...
Just watched "The Devil's Bride" tonight on TCM--it's the same movie.
Wasn't too bad. In the pre-film commentary guy was saying that this movie just had the bad luck of being released the same year as THE satanic cult movie: "Rosemary's Baby."
Rather enjoyed the film. Smooth steady pacing. And, the sets really draw you in.
Rating it a good 7.
I'd hate to see this re-made. Unfortunately, as someone else has said, it's seemingly all guts and gore these days. I'm glad there are still people out there who appreciate these horror films from days of yore and I think they'd turn this into a gore fest if it was remade.
