Re watched it and finally realised he was just telling a story and none of it actually happened I feel sick.

Um, I figured out the Vulgaria portion was just a story after at least 2 or 3 viewings, and that was when I was 6 or 7 years old. However, I'm okay with that, because the inventor still ended up with Truly, and Chitty could still fly at the end :D.

From trivia section of the CCBB entry on IMDB.com: “ According to Dick Van Dyke, the Vulgarian adventure was written to be "real," with the "fantasy narrative" aspect being a last minute addition to the script.”
