I just finished watching it and thought I was watching a 60's inspired version of "Alice in Wonderland! "

I assume your subject line means you don't think it's much like Candide at all. I never read Candide until after watching this movie, so I was looking for similarities, but I think they are roughly parallel in the sense that the main characters are progressively losing their innocence the longer they're out in the world.
