HAL 9000 was the Hero of the Movie.
Because if was stuck in space with the two boring doorknobs with zero personality named Frank and Dave. I would try to kill them too. And i wouldn't be nice about it like Hal was.

They say Neil Armstrong was a bit dry - maybe that's the best personality type for long space flights.
Anyway, I would pay a small fortune for a sentient computer box like Hal, even if it couldn't perform tasks like aim a high gain antenna or open/close pod bay doors.
