From Beautiful Downtown Burbank

Over here in Britain "Laugh-In" ran its full course every Sunday night. Its humour was so radical & innovative not to mention the editing (?)that it required a serious adjustment from "Life With Lucy" & "Bewitched" to its melee of new faces, fast dialogue & "bippy" phrases. Sadly some have now gone while others have just disappeared. Clearly its most successful export was the unlikely Goldie but what happened to Judy "Sock it to me!" Carne who seemed to be on a roll? Some while after its close she was an item in the press for allegedly drug smuggling through London Airport, a few bit spots then nothing... The closing Wall pandemonium often foxed me - was it pure spontenaity Or "Helzappopin 1968"? And what is a "bippy" anyhow?
Clearly, Nixon was never allowed to forget his lame effort! If nothing else,it put Burbank on the map. "Hoot & holler, scream & shout -here come de judge, let it all hang out!" {sorry, Sammy!)

I remember her on Love On a Rooftop, a romantic sitcom that ran for one season (1966-67) on ABC. In retrospect, her decision to leave Laugh-In was probably the biggest mistake she could make, career-wise.

I agree, but she was tired of the "Sock It To me!" stuff they did to her, like the dousing with water, and dropping her down a trap door chute, and the rest of it. She said she'd flinch when people down the street would yell SOCK IT TO ME and pelt her with stuff. but i agree, she should have stayed on the show and enjoyed its success.

In one episode Dan Rowan posed just that question to Dick Martin. Dick's answer: "It's a baby bip."

Look it up in your Funk & Wagnells!

"Bippy" was never defined, so I suppose it's whatever it means to you. I think, as Lily Tomlin's tasteful woman might say, the back of one's lap, and an acronym for below pockets (bp=bippy?).

BTW, goatboy, that was a wonderful answer.

Say goodnight, Dick!

Judy Carne was my favorite cast member and I was sure she was going to be a big star someday but she has virtually fallen off the face of the earth. I haven't heard anything about her since she started talking about her abusive marriage to Burt Reynolds. Once all that hub bub died down, she was never heard from again. If anybody knows what she's up to today, please fill us in.
