Thom Christopher on OLTL in the 1990s

I remember in the 1990s there was a storyline that focused on mob boss Carlo Hesser, played by Thom Christopher. That ended with Carlo being killed off. Some time after that, another character appeared on the show. The character's name may have been Mortimer, I'm not 100% sure, but I *thought* Thom Christopher also played this role. He was a rather mousy, almost nerdy in appearance, type who still lived with his mother. Eventually it came out that the mother had given birth to *two* boys years ago, but put one of them up for adoption, and that Carlo had been that one. I know I remember something like this, but I can't find a "Mortimer" listed on the OLTL cast page, or any reference to Thom's having played any role other than Carlo Hesser. Does anyone remember this storyline??

Yes and of course as it turns out Carlo's death was faked.

Yes, Thom Christopher played Carlo Hesser from 1990-1992, at which time his character was killed. Months later, he returned as Dr. Mortimer Bern, an professor in Egyptology, whom Carlo's widow, Alex, tried to convince to pose as Carlo for some reason or another. Christopher played Mortimer from 1993-1994, at which time Mortimer left town. Mortimer's mother, Wilma was played by both Elaine Stritch and Eileen Heckart.

In 1996, Christopher returned as Carlo, revealing that his 1992 death had been staged. By the end of the year, Carlo was murdered again. In 1997, Mortimer returned to testify at whoever was on trial for Carlo's murder (I think it was Antonio). It was later revealed that it was Mortimer who had been murdered and "Mortimer" who testified in court was really Carlo posing as Mortimer.
