THE ULTIMATE STAR

Has anyone seen the Joan Crawford episode?

reply

Joan Crawford never appeared in NOTG. She was set to appear in the episode "A Capitol Affair" as journalist Veronica Stewart, but at the last minute the role went to Mercedes McCambridge instead.

Here's some info on the Name Of The game story, "A Capitol Affair"! From an interview w/ the episode writer Richard Deroy:

****************************************************************************
Q: After the situation comedies, you wrote for The Name of the Game.

A: The two-parter in Vegas with Sammy Davis was one of my least favorite encounters ("I Love You, Billy Baker", ed.) I was there because he had notes. And I couldn’t stand his manager. They were just, “We’re hot *beep* I don’t think I did all of that script. I’d warned them I was going to Europe, and Steven Bochco replaced me.

I also did one that Suzanne Pleshette did ("A Capitol Affair", ed.), where they were trying to establish her character as a permanent character, a gossip writer. Joan Crawford was supposed to do it, and she got sick or something, and then they got Mercedes McCambridge to replace her. She was terrific, but it wasn’t exactly Joan Crawford in the sense of lustre.

I just watched it again & I can't see Joan anywhwere. She's not in the
end credits either. Maybe they filmed a brief scene with her and it ended up getting cut from the episode. Anyway, I stand corrected!
