I am wondering whether I imagined this. I seem to recall an episode taking place in Virginia (?) where Shakespeare (the real Shakespeare)was believed to have traveled. Does anyone recall? Thank you.
Was this an episode that showcased Susan St James? There is such an episode in I believe the 2nd season. Anthony Franciosa doesn't appear until near the end of it.
Yes, the manuscript pitted family members against one another and in the end Franciosa throws into the fire place where it is destroyed. It might have given more screen time for St. James -- she was never on long enough when she did appear. What a wonderful series and I just don't understand why they don't offer it as a DVD.
The episode you recall is entitled "The King of Denmark" and is from the series' second season.
Joseph Cotten plays a Shakespearean scholar from Virginia who figures in the mystery involving the lost manuscript. It was the only episode that featured Peggy Maxwell (Susan Saint James) as the lead character.
If you wish, send me a private message for availability info.
Tony Franciosa and Susan Saint James Co-Star in "The King of Denmark".....Jeff Dillon (Tony Franciosa) is seen at the beginning. with Peggy......then Peggy Maxwell (Susan Saint James) is the main character.....however Dillon then comes looking for her and they are both featured as Co-Leads at the conclusion....
The Episode credit is :
Tony Franciosa.....and Susan Saint James as Peggy Maxwell in...."The King of Denmark"
This episode is under the "Tony Franciosa" series segment with his face put up first in the original Rotating opening credits graphic...followed by Gene Barry...then Robert Stack....and Tony Franciosa's face is duly depicted for the closing credits & theme music...
WHEN will NBC Universal realise the GOLD MINE they have in their Archive....and issue this Colour TV series...plus the 1966 TV Movie pilot....as a DVD Box Set ?
Hopefully on "Universal Region 0" for Everyone to be able to enjoy....
This episode was rewritten to feature Susan St. James with support from Noel Harrison.
This was officially a Tony Franciosa, 'Jeff Dillon' episode, however Tony was having serious creative differences with NBC Universal. Susan St. James's 'Peggy Maxwell' was given the episode to carry.
It's clearly a most unusual episode. Margaret Leighton is wonderful as the unstable wife of Joseph Cotton.
