Los Angeles 2017

Hello 60's TV fans,

When I first saw the episode Los Angeles 2017 some 30 years ago I was very impressed with it. I remember there was an unusual song that was repeated throughout the episode. The song had lyrics that sounded more like a mathematical equation than a song.

Does any know what the lyrics are? Better yet does anyone have a cut or link to the song? Please help, this has been rattling around in my brain for some 30 years.

Regards,
Brian

A very odd episode. Sort of like THX-1138. This is the only episode I remember from this series. Perhaps because of that haunting tune. I only remember a bit of the song....

...the Eternal Triangle
We can prove it. We can prove it....

I have been searching for this show since it aired, I remember that the group singing the song were old hippies, and something about a war over air supplies between city states . I am also looking for a dvd of this show

I was only 12 at the time. I remember my mom WANTING to see this this
episode. So we all stayed up to watch it. I do remember it was a good
story about what happens when pollution takes over. They all lived
underground where the good air was. Nobody lived above ground.

I sure would like to see this episode again, a real testimony to Steven
Spielberg directing skills. It the ONLY episode of The Name of the Game
I can recall

actually they disguised the environmental issue by saying it was a natural disaster from algae overgrowth (and the air wasnt much better underground, since people were dying too - that's part of the point). The message is whether it's man-made or not, we need to do something. Of course, it's the same situation today, politically.

In case anyone's still listening...

I remember the song you're talking about. I don't remember the lyrics, but I remember the name of the group was...The Third Eye. Not to be confused with "Third Eye Blind."

One of the ambulance drivers at the beginning is singing it.

Barry Sullican co-starred along with the magnificent Sharon Farrel who also appeared in the previous season as a kind of Janis Joplin character.

And here is the song the aged hippie rock band sings (they were clearly modelled on the Jefferson Airplane):

Yeah! Yeah!
We need peace
We need love
We need help and understanding
Can't you hear
Can't you see
Peace is all that we're demanding!

The tune ain't half bad and I used to play it as a kind of joke back when I used to play clubs. There's a bridge too, that's very pseudo-psychedelic, but I can't remember the lyrics. I wonder if the person who wrote this song also wrote the outstanding psyche pop songs that were used in the first season Robert Stack episode, High On A Rainbow.

The lyrics might be in "Los Angeles: A.D. 2017," the novelization of the episode by Philip Wylie - I saw a used copy on Amazon. There's debate whether he wrote the episode itself, as discussed in FilmFax magazine in a September 2008 issue.

Here are the lyrics to the song from the beginning of "2017":

Red white green yellow
Blue chromatic triangle
90 yellow 30 blue
55 plus 5
We can prove it
We can prove it
We are come alive

This and the geriatric hippie song are by Billy Goldenberg, who did some really great work on this series.
