What was edited out?
I've seen DVD packages of this series in stores, and in fine print on the back the packages say "Edited from their original broadcast versions". Does anyone know what was cut out?

shareIf you look around online, there's a big bunch of the pilot that was edited out. It's in the versions you can find online, now. It was originally shot to run, I think, 90 minutes, and cut down to 45-50. Most of what was cut out was the explanations of how these three "kids", who were all arrested for minor offenses, became undercover agents for the police.
They really aren't cops, at all. They don't carry guns, they don't carry badges, they can't make an arrest. They never even make a "citizen's arrest".
Ah, that's why I found the pilot so confusing. I actually thought, while watching it, that it wasn't the pilot because they never explained how the kids got to be cops or what the backstory was on each one. I'll have to look online to try to find the uncut version.
shareWhy would they edit the DVD's?
People wanna see the whole complete episodes.
"Why would they edit the DVD's? "
It's likely the DVD versions were episodes edited for syndication. Often that's all they can find of some older TV shows to put out on DVD. Syndication versions are edited down to fit more commercial time in them.
*DVDs. No need for an apostrophe, unless you are referring to one DVD in particular.
shareThe pilot episode "The Teeth of the Barracuda" is unedited on the DVD, clocking in at 73 minutes. It includes the explanation for how they came to join the police force and over the course of the story Pete, Linc, and Julie all explain their past lives.
I was wondering if this was made into a two-parter for syndication or just cut down to 45-50 minutes. There's not a lot of fat to trim on this one without doing damage to the story.
