Did Opie go with Andy or stay with Aunt Bea?

In the "Return to Mayberry" special Opie talked like he had never lived anywhere but in Mayberry and was concerned about his opportunity to move away to the "big city" (how Opie went to college without leaving Mayberry is beyond me. I can't imagine him being accepted for a job on a big city newspaper without a college degree.)

But wouldn't it be weird if your dad got remarried and then moved away with his new wife and they didn't want you to live with them? Opie probably had to go into therapy for years over that.

I think Opie moved w/Andy at the end of the show. Aunt Bea was with Sam for the first couple seasons of RFD. My guess is, Opie went to college and then moved home to Mayberry. So he was only living out of Mayberry 4 or 5 years.

That is true, he did go to college and lived on campus. He did not consider that living away from home, since he probably went to UNC-Raleigh or Raleigh State University, which are both rather close to Mayberry. However, after college, he came back home to Mayberry where he eventually married, became a father and probably bought his own home. He would never move in with Andy and Helen or Aunt Bea.
