Emment's birthday

In the Episode in the first season "Emmentt's Birthday", He is about to turn 50. Yet the actor who plays Emmentt is Paul Hartman who was born in 1904. Now Check me on this and see if I'm right about this--Hartman turned 50-in 1954. This episode was aired in December 1968-so by that time he was 64 years old-14 years over 50. The screen writer should have at least made it his 60th birthday-which though is 4 years off-would still be more believable than making it 50.

When I saw this episode, I thought He looked a lot older than 50-which was kinda funny-so I looked up his IMDB profile-and sure enough-he's a lot older.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not making fun of Mr. Hartman-he's a fine actor-but no effort was made to conceal that fact he was 64-by using make up or whatever they do. They should have either done that or make it his 60th birthday.

I thought the exact same thing. Good ole Emmett looks older then 50. I guess the writers thought 50 was more of a "landmark" birthday then 60?

I think you are right.

I looked it up also while watching this episode. Paul Hartman would have been 64. And what is so ironic is the fact that he is the same age as Cary Grant, also born in 1904. If you remember it's when Emmett learns that C Grant is older, he decides 50 ain't so bad!

Oh gee people never really.look their age.
I feel it is true that Emmett couldnt.pass for 50.
In All In The Family when it is said Edith is 50 I couldn't believe it.
When I thrned 48 & celebrated my birthday a co worker asked How old are you? I said the truth: 48.
He thought I lied thought I was 33 or such.
People younger often seem much older.
But it is a sitcim and liberties are always taken...no big deal...
