Grocery carts

In 3 different episodes:
1. Opie and the Spoiled aKid
Arnold riding his bike on the sidewalk swipes
a woman coming from the grocery carrying 2 heavy shopping bags
2.The Bazaar
Stupid Warren offers to help Aunt Bee by carrying her groceries they argue and the bag rips apart. Also she carries the groceries w/o another bag. Considering that she was outside the gro ery store wouldn't she be able to.ask for another bag as a customer courtesy?
3. Opies job: Competing for the job Billy & Opie deliver groceries w/o the aid of a cart?
Even in the mid 60s there were shopping carts and not too expensive why was everyone shopping w/o.carts or deliveries w/o carts?
So stupid, even for a sitcom?

??? You think the people should be pushing grocery carts down the sidewalk?

The stores were store fronts without a parking lot for one. Maybe if they had a parking lot, we would have seen carts.
The stores were pretty small to be pushing a cart even inside the store and the stores werent all self service either. A lot of the stuff you ask for and the storekeeper gets it for you. Barney even made a mention to how things would be better if the stores were self service when Aunt Bee complained of crowded shopping day.
Many of hte women did not drive or have a car so they walked home with their groceries anyway

But i do find it funny watching a lot of these older shows. People lugged paper shopping bags all the way home and WALKING. No handles, no plastic bags. Now many cities and states (like in California) are trying to do away with plastic bags and people are going nuts. Even those that have cars and dont have to lug their groceries home walking can't handle the ban even tho many of the complainers were definitely around before plastic bags
