Greg Cousins

Captain Greg claimed he was the only son of an only son. Claymore claimed to be his nephew.

I submit that the Captain had never heard that a cousin who is both elder and well respected can be uncle or if female aunt. Paternal grandfather of the Captain had a brother who was also claymore's ancestor.

I think the whole point of that is Claymore was such a nerd, Captain Gregg refused to claim him!

I think it was a distant relative on his father's side in some way, but geonology isn't my thing. But really, Claymore can't be a nephew of any sort if neither DG or his father had any male siblings.

my grandfather's brother (My great-Uncle) had a son who is my father's first cousin and technically my "First Cousin- Once Removed". Being that he is 40 years older than me I have always referred to him as Uncle and he refers to me as his nephew. Being a distant relative several generations younger it might just be simpler for Claymore to refer to him as an uncle. Also remember, it probably made it simpler for him to establish a claim to the property.

PS: I always thought it was ironic that the Captain always refused to acknowledge their relationship yet he could only possess Claymore's body because they were both Greggs.

Is this board dead or can we resurrect this thread?

What gets me is that there is talk on various episodes as if the Captain had descendants or is somebody's ancestor.

That can't be if he died childless. Of course, he was a seafaring man and thus might have spread his seed without paying any attention. (An old sea chanty describes the singer's dalliances with the landlord's daughters at an inn called the Morning Glory. Returning after a voyage, the singer notes "There on the shore were the sisters four with a bundle upon each knee. There were three little girls and a bouncing boy and they all looked just like me.")

That's an idea a bit risqué for the show!
