And You Want Me to Get Married?

I watched this episode today, and Malloy & Reed are first to the scene of a woman whose car has gone off the road through a guard rail. They figure out there was a baby in the car, and thrown clear, and when the Sergeant gets there with other officers, they do a search of the area to find the baby. Reed finds him (her?) in some bushes, lying there with (apparently) no obvious wounds and not a scratch on him. And yet later on Mac says the baby is "getting a transfusion." What's up with that?? Why would a baby who wasn't even bleeding need a transfusion?? Methinks there was a little dramatic license involved... they didn't want us to see an injured baby, but wanted the kid to be hurt to make the accident seem more horrific.

Internal injuries?

Probably network standards and practices (much stronger back then) forbade showing a bloody, battered baby as offending or shocking the tastes of viewers.

Is it possible that fake blood, fake bruises, etc. could not be used on babies due to possible skin irritation or warnings not to use theses products on infants?
