I've noticed that many of the amazon reviewers have given the DVDs low ratings, stating that the quality is poor. This seems to especially be the case with season 1. Other, on the other hand, have stated just the opposite - i.e. that the quality seems to be just fine. So can any of you, who have purchased the DVDs, let me know what you think about the overall quality. If it's as bad as some of the amazon users are making it out to be, perhaps I'll just record the series off t.v. Would appreciate any responses. Thanks All !!!!!
Disclaimer: I don't have the DVDs, and I might be confusing this with another show, but were DVDs released by two different companies? I seem to remember an issue discussed on Amazon regarding either Adam-12 or Emergency! I believe many of the earlier release DVDs were of poor quality, but eventually Shout Factory released them and the quality was much better. So the difference may depend on when the reviewer purchased the DVDs and from what company.
Sorry, this might just muddle the issue more rather than provide any answers, or it may repeat what you already know. But I have heard of differences in quality as well, and from what I could gather from reading the reviews on Amazon, that was a factor.
Thanks slackersmom. You aren't "muddling" the issue at all, but rather helpfully pointing out an issue that many DVD collectors are also questioning. Thanks for that. There are in fact two versions of season one that have been released. And yes, they've done this with other shows as well (so you might also be correct about Emergency). You'd think that the so-called "big studios" would be the ones putting out the better quality versions .... but that's not always the case. So if SHOUT is putting out the better quality then that's the route I'll consider. Hey, thanks again for your input.
Season 1 was released by Universal in 2005. They were double-sided discs and more than one customer (like me) has said they were prone to scratches and skipping issues.
However, three years later Shout! Factory picked up the licensing and released the other seasons. I've watched seasons 2, 3, and 4 and there were no problems on the single-sided discs and the picture quality was fine.
Season 1 discs are so so in quality; double sided discs and some skips and a few scratches on the prints. Still, if you are a die hard fan of the show, it's a must own. Seasons 2-7--Shout Factory did an excellent job. NO complaints here.
Thanks for your post charcas67. Seems as if I should consider purchasing the Shout Factory version. I might also take another look at the what the amazon reviewers wrote. While it does seem that most of them were complaining specifically about season one (uh, the non-Shout version) I think there were others that were complaining about BOTH versions (?). Perhaps it's their DVD players and not the DVDs that are the problem ........ ?
Hi badge7213 - Yeah, I've also noticed on both Amazon and Ebay that there do seem to be two versions of season 1. So which one is the Shout / better version? There are two different cover photos and I want to make sure I'm looking at the right one. Thanks! If the quality is good I'd prefer to have the official DVD as opposed to just taping off t.v., mostly because t.v. shows are always edited.
I have a couple seasons & haven't had any issues. Good picture quality on all of them. I wish the first season wasn't double sided but I haven't had a problem. Probably the newer DVD editions will have more disks. Hope that helps!
