Reed always looks constipated

I'm into Season 2 now on Netflix. I watched these back in the day (early 70's and in reruns in the 70's).

But now, at least through Season 2, Reed quite often has this look on his face which makes him appear constipated. I'm sure McCord is trying to look 'perplexed' or something, but it's not working.

Post is MY OPINION. Don't look for spelling/grammar errors as this isn't a PhD Thesis.

Some people are idiots.

Drop dead mactach. Seems like most of your posts lately are just being critical of other posts and posters.

Such gems as

You're nuts varuns.
Why are you comparing the Evan's with The Huxtibles?
Boy there are a lot of dumb people here.
Think the person who started this thread oughta get shot.
Some people have too much time on their hands.
(referring to the dumb thread starter)
Some people ask the dumbest questions.
Boy your logic makes so sense.
And on and on...

You see - you don't seem to post much about shows or topics - but rather other posters. Here's a clue - if you don't like a post or thread - move on. Or post on the topic. People who continually post about other posters and not the shows amaze me. Once in a while - ok. But seems to me you search out posts you don't like, comment on the posters - and then probably sit there and feel superior. Here's some news for you: Your little one line replies really aren't as clever as you think. Some life you must lead.

I wouldn't he say he looks constipated...Kent McCord is too handsome at all times to give off that look, but he does project as an actor with limited range. However, do watch the Dragnet episode The Interrogation in which McCord plays a rookie cop who's being investigated by Friday and Gannon for Internal Affairs. McCord surprised me by how good he was in that episode...he really could act.

reply

Yes - in the Dragnet episode he was quite believable.

McCord was also kind of wooden in Galactica 1980 - but let's face it - he didn't have much if any material to work with in that setting.

reply

I guess the Producers were looking for the strong silent type to compare to the ever boyish Molloy character.

I will assume that the women preferred Reed's character.

Look where they broke for lunch. Not fiber city.

Lol Too many tacos and cheeseburgers, and cheap coffee.

reply

That could have the opposite effect.

reply

Nope. Sorry. This lady prefers Malloy.

reply

This one too! ;-)

reply

I agree w/ your assessment that McCord is both quite handsome and also the limited range thing. Half the fun of watching this show is to see Malloy's facial expressions as he reacts to crazy people, drunk drivers, funny kids, etc.

(Fun fact: I read an interview in which McCord admitted he almost didn't take the part of Reed as he wasn't a particularly big fan of cops. Like the people that Reed and Malloy run into who complain that cops aren't around when you need them, they 'hassle' innocent people, etc.... I think that was the actor's opinion of law-enforcement before he took the role. Who knew, right??)

reply

I always thought in those early episodes his expression said, "What the *beep* have I got myself into?"

The best diplomat I know is a fully activated phaser bank.

Plus which, for many of the early episodes especially, McCord is slouched way down, perhaps to make he and Milner look the same height. Later on he got to sit up straighter, and he smiled more....lol

reply

I believe McCord & Milner were almost the same height. McCord is listed as 6'2" and Milner as 6'1" so any difference isn't very noticeable. I never thought of McCord as 'slouching,' so I can't comment on that particular observation.

reply

He didn't look constipated to me, he looked more like he had to take a poop.

reply

I have some thoughts on this:

1. He had to speak lines and look like a cop on duty while sitting in a part of a car on a trailer being pulled by a camera truck. Takes some mighty good acting to pull that off multiple times.

2. I agree. He could have been, shall we say, longing for a potty stop while careening around LA on that trailer.

He was the perfect actor for Webb's style of show.

You mean stiff and emotionless??

(LOL, sorry, but I couldn't resist. I agree he was good in that interrogation scene in Dragnet, but somehow that same 'person' doesn't usually seem to come across in A-12.)

Also, it may be just me, but it seems as if Kent talks with his lips only, and his jaw rarely moves. That certainly doesn't help the impression of him being expressionless.

Actually, Webb directed the pilot for Emergency!, and was Exec Producer for the first season, so the "Webb effect" is definitely evident. (Especially the pilot, which I understand was quite an ordeal to film.) It wasn't until he left the show completely after the 1st season that things began to smooth out for Emergency. (In my opinion,at least.) And then it sprouted wings.

reply

Yes, that stiff and emotionless act was Webb's thing. Actually Dragnet wasn't as stiff acting as people make out, but the cadence of speech was required by Webb. Adam-12 and Emergency weren't stiff looking. Emergency had no Webb feel about it at all.

Dragnet always seemed like 45 minutes of dialogue crammed into a half hour production. Webb had a lot to say and nobody was going to stop him from getting it out! 😀

No blah, blah, blah!

reply

I always thought the same thing. He always looked uncomfortable or troubled about something. He was also too emotional at times, at least for a police officer. I liked Malloy much better, he was very professional.
