Reed's wedding ring.
Why doesn't Reed wear his wedding ring in every episode? Do some police officers not wear them?

I wondered the same thing, the ring just disappears in season 5. Anyway, I was lucky enough to ask Kent McCord about this at an autograph show in Los Angeles about a month ago. He didn't really know what happened to the ring or why he stopped wearing it. He never wears a wedding ring in real life, he thought he probably wore it for four seasons then just stopped. He also told me that he never wanted Reed to be married, but Cinader felt it was right for the character since a lot of the young cops joining the force were married and starting families. He never seemed really happy to be married, I thought it was because he married so young and some of the chicks they arrested or had to set up for drug busts were so hot.....if the show kept going I figured they get a divorce. Ironically after Pete marries Helen Crump......scene in the 19 "74" Matador(damn you AMC sponsors!!)....season 8.....Pete to Jim "hey I just wanna let you know we really dig all you did for us helping with the wedding and all. You were right I didn't know what I was missing."
Jim to Pete: "yeah, well a I'm glad you're happy, that's great."
Pete: "you sound like you just lost your best friend, c'mon pal what's up?"
Jim: Me and Jean separated the day after you went on your honey moon.
Dispatcher: one Adam 12, 211 see the man at the liquor store, 257 Ocean Way, repeat 257 Ocean Way
Jim: one Adam 12 Roger!
Pete hanging a u-turn: well thanks allot pal!
Thank you Keely! That makes a lot of sense that he didn't wear a wedding ring in real life.
