Did cops back in the 60s actually use briefcases? In the show you see them carrying them to the car at the start of the shift but never see them again. What did they use them for?

Some did. I did for several years to keep all the stupid paperwork and forms organized. LoL
shareSo they attend a briefing everyday before their shift starts. They get reports on what is going on and they get lists of license plate numbers which were recently stolen. I just watched an episode that had Kip Niven riding with Malloy. He tells Malloy he left his reports back at the roll call briefing room. Malloy assures him it's no big deal since he has them in his briefcase.
