Training Division episode

Today, I watched the "Training Division" episode of Adam-12. The opening scene depicted a felony stop of two armed suspects that resulted in the deaths of the first four Los Angeles Police Department responding officers. As the camera zooms out, we learn this was just a training reenactment of a real life incident that they did not elaborate.

But because I attend street survival training when I carried a badge, I quickly realized how this opening scene resembled the infamous "Newhall Incident" where four California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers were murdered by two armed suspects. The "Newhall Incident" occurred in April 1970 and this Adam-12 episode aired in 1973.

I'm watching that episode now. I also just watched the funeral procession go by my house for officer DeGuzman who was killed in the line of duty here in San Diego.
Sad reminders of the dangers of police work.
I never heard of the Newhall incident. Thanks for the information.
