Volcano Base/ Spectre's Budget

This is the Bond film that went too far in believeability. How the hell do you hollow out a volcano/kit it out with a (recoverable) rocket/helicopter/control centtre not to mention all the technicians/astronauts/lackeys etc in SECRET. The wage bill must have been astronomical(pun intended), the guys don't need a pension though-if they screw up they just get killed (who'd work for them?).Remember the fishing village...surely the people would have seen all sorts of weird stuff going on up the volcano. Enjoyable as it is, it's still dumb!

Oh yeah, this is turn off your brain kinda stuff, all right. How the fishing village could not have noticed rocket launches taking place a couple of miles away is beyond stupid. More stupid is how no one could track any launches coming from there, or landing there either.

Even if you don't know it's landing there the first time - and you only know that they're landing somewhere in Japan - then the second time, you focus all radar on Japan and you find it. How stupid is that?

It is in a volcano, yes hollowing it out would have taken years. But if there was a lot of smoke and it was fired at night and it took off at a steep angle away from the village it's possible. The roar of the engines might seem just like the volcano being active.

But yeah, the script really should have been axed and they should have done On Her Majesty's Secret Service instead.

reply

Sorry, but no. The village girl Bond marries specifically says that the volcano has not erupted within memory. And there's no way you launch a rocket and not have villagers a few miles away notice, no matter what the time, no matter what the angle. That's gonna wake people up.

More importantly, there is radar - whether it's Japanese, Chinese or Russian - that would detect such a launch, as well as a landing. Even if it didn't detect the launch, each of these three has a navy equipped with radar that they could send within 100 miles of where they think the rockets are taking off from, and landing, and with that radar, figure out exactly where the base is.

And then bomb the holy hell out of it.

Obviously the base had radar-jamming equipment.

The unholy triumvirate:
The Bat, the Trek, the Bond

The SPECTRE control room announces kept mentioning radar blackout and the village was very remote, very sleepy (and the local authorities could very easily been in SPECTRE's pocket).

Extortion is their business. See they make money illegally. Lots of it. Are you beginning to understand yet?

Its a plot hole
