During weddings, does anyone really ever object (blasphemy!) to the joining together of the couple with the bride pregnant?

I have worked with genealogy for many years and in the 1800's it was not uncommon for a couple to tie the not shortly before childbirth. Surely this coould not have been a big shock. Thoughts?

Earlier in the film her mom said she would talk to any "three-legged boy" and her dad said she would marry a buffalo. In other words, I think it was pretty well known that she was loose. So you're right, it should not have shocked anybody at all.
