Is it worth seeing at the cinema/theatre?

The BFI Southbank is showing this next month as part of their Hepburn season and I'm wondering whether it's one of those films that's better enjoyed on the big screen with an audience. I saw it about 15 years ago one night on TV and enjoyed it and want to watch it again but don't know if I should pay the £9 or just get it on DVD.

The fact that it's only £4 on amazon also has something to do with it...

I just saw this again on TV and in reading some of the questions I noted that noone has answered yours. Assuming you someday get another opportunity to see this fine film under optimum conditions, i.e. a theater which has turned out all lights for the latter part of the film, it is most definitely worth it. I saw this movie in the theater when it originally was released and have also seen it many times on the small screen as I own the DVD. I am not a fan of "scary" movies, but the scenes that take place after Audrey has seemingly put out all of the lights are the scariest and most exciting ever and the small screen and lack of an audience really take away much of the excitement. Or in other words, yes.

The size of the screen has little impact on the effectiveness of this neat, taut, suspenseful little chiller, but to get the full effect, I would advise anyone watching it at home to shut the lights off for the last twenty minutes.

It's much better on the big screen.
