Huge Plothole

Ok. She lives in what can only be assumed as a 3 or 4 story brownstone with other people. There's at least 1 other family there as the little girl lives upstairs. So why when she realizes that the men aren't who they appear to be, doesn't she just go upstairs to the the little girl's apartment, call the police from there and wait till the actual policemen arrive?

If you watch the movie closely it explains all of that. There are two families. One guy who lives there talks to Susy (Audrey Hepburn) about how he's going on vacation. Next is the little girls parents which Sam (Efrem Zimbalist Jr.) explains are never around. He says something along the lines of her father walked out again, and her mother is out partying. So when she actually realizes she is in danger she calls the cops but Mike(Richard Crenna) walks in so she has to hang up. Then when he leaves she sends the girl for help and then tries calling the police again, but they already cut off her phone line. She is blind so she can't really just go sneak upstairs to the little girls apartment, plus it could be locked. Also the criminals would probably catch her. Just my perspective!

You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it.
