Acid question - SPOILERS

Near the end, Suzie throws a vase full of acid into Roat's face. Earlier, you see her setting up this trap and the bottle says 'hydro' and is clearly an acid/chemical for photo development. After getting hit with acid to the face, Roat is stunned only for a few seconds. Was that the desired effect? Wouldn't the acid be excruciating and cause burning or blindness? He seems to shake it off it's effect pretty quickly. I feel like a bucket of acid to the face would be the end of it... Any thoughts or clarifications on this? Thanks!

I just watched this scene and it was a flower pot filled with some kind of liquid, probably not acid.

Bottle was a photo processing chemical called 'Hypo'. Sodium Thiosulfate. It's used to 'clear' black and white film after developement. It is an eye irritant but not like an acid would be. BTW, used to work in film processing years ago.
