Richard Crenna was sexy..
I thought the way he carried himself was sexy in this movie.

I Came, I Saw, I Conquered.
I always thought he was very sexy.
shareSame here. He was one of my first actor crushes.
It ain't the Ganges, but you go with what you got." ~ Ken Talley, "The Fifth of July"
It was an interesting role for him.
On TV, he'd been the geeky young guy(Our Miss Brooks), the handsome guy(The Real McCoys), the heroic guy(Slattery's People).
And here -- in one of his two shots he got at being a Major Movie Star(The Sand Pebbles was the other) -- he ended up playing The Dangerous Guy.
I think what was sexy about Crenna here is that, early on, he's playing a believably dangerous criminal -- he's done prison time, he carries a straight razor(!!) for protection, he stands up to Alan Arkin's clear psychopath of a criminal partner.
As the movie goes on, Crenna's believable bad guy becomes believably "good" in the face of Audrey Hepburn's plight and bravery.
And that's sexy too.
Yes.
I'm sad he's gone.

Crenna was a good, durable actor who just got better as he aged.
It seems only The Sand Pebbles and Wait Until Dark gave him big time movie roles as a star, but he worked in TV and TV movies for years after that period(he said "The Hollywood Squares" kept food on the table for a few years) and then re-surfaced as a character guy in the 80's and 90's. He's quite nasty as the husband William Hurt needs to kill(for Kathleen Turner) in Body Heat, and he was, of course, Rambo's friendly ex-commander(he spoofed that role wonderfully in Hot Shots, Part Deux.)
There was also a movie where he played a slickster country club gambler who badly influences Matt Dillon. Can't remember the name. I'll check imdb.
The movie you are referring to was "The Flamingo Kid."
shareSo agree with you!
