shareInstead of reviewing the film he simply tells all the major stories of it.
As for the locked door I thought Carlino put something on it so it could be easily opened.

It's a brilliant film, and Ebert, who is known to sometimes misquote movies or try to wax intellectual instead of actually critiquing anything, is entitled to his opinion, wrong that it is. The audience sees the characters and actions from all sides, but the characters, particularly Suzy, do not. What seems an obvious action to us wouldn't be to her because she is only piecing things together, uncertain of who to trust or what the bad guys might do to her if she doesn't have anything to bargain with. Ebert is a Baby Boomer name brand, which is the only reason so many people pay attention to him.
shareHi, I like Audrey Hepburn in general and the effect at the end when all the lights were shut off but I have to agree with hnkc99-1's comments about the implausible plot. Besides asking the young girl to call the police instead of going to the bus station, has anyone ever wondered why Audrey didn't ask the girl to help her get into one of the other apartments where there might be people and more help? At the very beginning, one of her neighbors (guy with skis) leaves for the weekend but they talk about a couple other people who are living in the apartment. Where were these folks? Plot seems too contrived.
shareThough a Zero star rating is a little harsh, I'll agree with one part of Ebert's review:
I don't think Audrey Hepburn should have gotten an Academy nomination for her performance (she was much better in "Two for the Road"), but I don't want to quibble.
Did he give a thumbs up to Little Black Book, the one with Ron Livingston and Brittney Murphy? Nice! haha
shareIt doesn't matter if she closes the door or not. They got the key.
shareMr. Ebert wrote Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls - if anyone ever wrote an idiot plot, he's the man. Wait Until Dark is a masterpiece of plotting compared to Mr. Ebert's opus, and it's a terrific film and Miss Hepburn most assuredly deserved her nomination.
shareBeyond the Valley of the Dolls is satire.

If WUD had an 'idiot' plot then there are a H#$L of a lot of movies that deserve no stars, or negative stars.
shareSo what?!?!?!? Don't you know not to listen to critics? Roger Ebert.... IS A CRITIC!!!! Don't worry about it, because if you do, you'll find yourself in a dilemma. You'll tend to disagree with critics throughout your life.
