Why couldn't she just lock the door? Plus she had enough opportunities to call the police, or go hide in the girl's apartment.

Exactly. She's a recently-blinded woman who knows that some dangerous men who've been in her home are conspiring to do something with her. So she's not just going to run out into the street or try to hide. Plus she probably doesn't want to risk Gloria's safety any more than she absolutely has to.
I would imagine that being in that situation, as it slowly dawns on you that these people are lying to you and possibly going to kill you, would be terrifying at the best of times. In Susy's particular case it would be much worse.
