LITTLE RUTHIE

Ruthie did a great job. She played her brat part well...even if Joanna had to "woo" her.

I agree - she did a great job. And according to director Stanley Donen, Gabrielle Middleton (who played Ruthie) was actually a sweetheart of a kid.

reply

Do you know why Gabrielle only did one film?

reply

Because she didn't want to work with anymore "Stuck-up English nobodies!"

that little girl made me soooo angry, so yeah, kudos to the actress...

I think you mean suburban English nobodies. At least that's what Mommy said!

Well that and she wanted to take her tablecloth house with her.

Agreed. She reminded me so much of every bratty little kid I've had to babysit. The "I'm hungry, I'm not hungry, I'm hungry" experience was almost an exact replica of what I encountered once.

Just as a matter of reference she was the sister of the little boy in Charade
Here's whats listed for the boy's bio

Tom Chelimsky and his sister Kathy Chelimsky were American children who each appeared in childhood with Audrey Hepburn in a Stanley Donen film in the 1960's.(Kathy was in "Two for the Road", 1967.) Each appeared only in one film; neither pursued a career as an actor. They both became physicians (in the U.S.)

My favorite scene in the whole movie: "Tell your mother AT ONCE!"

Kathy Chelimsky did not play Ruthie in Two For The Road - she played Caroline, the daughter of Tom and Joanna (a much smaller role, for which she was uncredited). As was already noted several times on this thread, the young actress who played Ruthie was Gabrielle Middleton. Although she was great in TFTR, Middleton apparently also only appeared in this one film and no others.

I've never been able to make it through this movie, or wanted to. That child was the most annoying brat in film history! She made Jane Withers in "Bright Eyes" look like a perfect angel!
