im assuming anyone who reads this remembers how jimmy and millie continue on about 'another first' all the way throughout the movie. it started when they were in the car i think they were are just your know making out but when they kept referring to 'firsts' i wonder did they do more in the car then we are lead to suppose and also millie keep talking about you being equal. but then at the end tea says she's an old fashion girl....but maybe i just got it wrong...
It's generally referred as "having firsts" with someone meaning you're doing something you've never done before. Like taking a chance. After a long relationship, people who have done things together as a couple are typically closer and a stronger pair.
No- they did NOT do anything more than kissing. During that time, it would have still been highly inappropriate for a single girl to do anything more than make out with a boy.
As to them being "equal", this was the beginning of womens rights, etc. She wanted to been seen as an independent woman, strong and cool- which is contradictory to the fact since she is only doing it to marry a man to have him take care of her. That's the kind of relationship she wanted with Trevor, but being with Jimmy made her want to be herself- which was an old-fashioned girl and NOT the flapper image she projected. Technically, it is a pretty backwards step for her, but this is a modern woman typing this, so I may just be sour.
thanks i was wondering about that. but isnt the point of the movie showing that millie is just plainly trying to make herself into something she is not. and at the time it was what she was brought up to think. although there were modern women and the whole 'votes for women' this does not necessarily mean that they can just stop thinking the way they were 'programmed' to think and live for centuries.
