My Big Fat Greek Wedding?

In Movie Connections, it says that My Big Fat Greek Wedding spoofs Thoroughly Modern Millie. I do not see any connection between those two movies. Can someone please explain that to me?

Perhaps it refers to the wedding dance scene in each movie?

(just a guess)
