This is one of those flicks you see as a little kid (bad parents, BAD!) on the weekend creature features like The Ghoul. The drawing & quartering part has ALWAYS stuck in my head & when I read the review of this I said (out loud) THIS IS THAT FREAKING MOVIE! OMG!!!! The funny part is, I have the dvd from Netflix sitting in front of me right now! I cannot wait to revisit this!

PS...the dvd also has "The Movie House Massacre" & "Claw of Terror". I'm off to look those 2 up right now!!!! EDIT: oh yeah, "Black Mamba" is the 4th flick on the dvd...just in case anyone else is interested!!!

I own that particular DVD. "The Torture Chamber of Dr. Sadism" is without a doubt the best fright feature on the whole disc. Christopher Lee is as supremely wicked as ever, Karin Dor and Christiane Rucker both make for very pretty heroines in distress, the creepy atmosphere is beautifully well sustained throughout, and the shock set pieces are genuinely potent and unnerving (that opening quartering scene is real nasty stuff).

Despite what the dubbing says, Count Regula was NOT drawn and quartered. He was, as Lex Barker's character correctly states in his handing down of the sentence, simply quartered. To be "drawn" is a whole different (and even more disturbing) matter. Most people always refer to being quartered as being drawn and quartered, but it's not the same.

What does 'drawn' mean, then?

Regula was torn apart by horses, and then years later put together again in a wonderful scene (missing in the shorter English version, but there in the more complete German).

"Drawn" was having your intestines pulled out while you were still conscious, and letting the townsfolk stomp on them and burn them, etc. THEN they quartered you.

Nope, they didn't pull Regula's intestines out.

Saw it in a drive-in a thousand moons ago on a double bill with "Attack of the Flying Hugeless". No lie.

Same here, gotta love 70's monster movie TV fun. then forgotten for years as a vague memory until finally running across it and instant memory trip...

That's what made parents AWESOME back in the day! When I was like 4 or 5 years old, I couldn't sleep so I got out of bed and lo-and-behold, my mom couldn't sleep either. She was reading, but had this movie on (probably cuz the news just ended and it was just background noise). I walked in, just when the carriage was going thru the woods with all the dead bodies hanging from poles and trees. I remember most of the victims were naked and I was terrified. It has been a love affair with the horror genre ever since! :)

Also: Christopher Lee is the best actor ever!!!

I remember seeing this movie in the 70s as a kid. It was on a Saturday afternoon Creature Feature on WKBD Detroit. A great creepy movie for a cold and snowy Saturday :)
