I love the film. Sure, it's certainly not the best Beatles work out there, but so many scenes stand out and the music (as all the Fabs music was) is fantastic.
As Paul once said, it's worth having if only for the ONLY filmed performance of I Am The Walrus, but hell, there's loads of great stuff in it...
Personally, my favourites are the arguments between Ringo and Aunt Jessie, the finale (Your Mother Should Know) and George's 'Blue Jay Way' sequence.
Classic stuff :)

Shocked. And Stunned.

It's different. It's arty and out there. Only just got it myself. Watched only once. Love it. Going to watch it again this weekend.
Wish I could get Let It Be, it's the only one missing...

I do like it, yes... BUT it's not like Python.. It's too *arty* you know.
It's a joy to watch it. and there are the bonzos too so it's double fun!

It's great movie, too bad it's not available on (official) dvd.

reply

it was terrible i thought

reply

it has it's moments. but there are also times you want to rip the hair out of your head. all the songs are good though

reply

Great songs, fair plot (WHAT plot?) I liked it, but I still want to see "Hey Jude". A friend told me he saw it at a Beatlesfest in Seattle. Has anyone else seen it yet?

reply

what is "Hey Jude"? I mean other than the performance of them doing it?

reply

I honest to God have no idea. My friend told me he saw a movie called "Hey Jude" at a Beatlesfest in Seattle around 1973 or 1974. When I get the chance, I'll ask him what it was.
"I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay..."

reply

OF COURSE... I DO!! IT IS MAYBE THE BEST OF ALL FIVE BEATLE MOVIES!!IT´S FUNNY, ENTERTAINING AND ALL THOSE GREAT SONGS ADD IN A BIG WAY TO THE HUGE LEGEND THOSE FOUR MEN WERE!!EVEN STEVEN SPIELBERG RECOMMENDED THIS FLICK TO CINEMA STUDENTS!

reply

I really adore this movie. I don't see why everyone is always complaining about the lack of plot. I don't see why plot is neccesary when you've got a great soundtrack, not to mention The Beatles!

I don't want to achieve immortality through my work. I want to achieve it through not dying.

reply

as a Beatles fan im biased to see the positives of this film

But being neutral, Magical mystery tour as a film for entertainment SUCKS BIG TIME.

Its a shame because, in competent hands of a qualified director, this could have been the movie equivalent to Sgt Peppers.

It has all... psychodelia, loneliness, old time ( Yur mother shuld know) and they shuld have added more songs from the period, like Hello Goodbye . All you need is love and Baby youre a rich man.

Each song culd have represented a vignette of some feeling or situation related to the times and it wuld have been da bomb.

reply

Hello, Goodbye was at the end during the credits!!! IT was an awesome movie! I saw a music video for strawberry fields. IT was on the album (The song was) howe come it wasn't it the movie?

reply

The album was a US invention. The original soundtrack was a double-EP with the six songs from the movie. Capitol in the US added the other songs to fill out to an album.

I like MMT. I watched it again last night for the first time in ages. It's quirky, and it wanders a bit, but if you look at it as a long-form video instead of a movie, it's as reasonable as much of MTV (not that they show videos anymore.)

The songs could all be lifted out as stand-alone videos.

reply

I just finished watching MMT for the first time in years. I admit its a bit weird but funny in a lot of parts and the musical sequences alone are worth watching.
