Is Macca's memory slipping?

During the commentary track Paul says repeatedly that they didn't use a "clap board" during the filming (a device that allows sound and picture to synch up during editing) YET you can clearly see a camera tech with a clap board doing just that during the "I Am the Walrus" sequence (it's at 27 mins. 44 secs. on the DVD if you want to check it out).

So was Paul just confused or misinformed or did it just make for a better story to explain why it took them so much longer to edit the film than they originally planned?

If in fact they didn't use clap boards then the editor would have to synch sound up manually and it would take many many more weeks than they originally planned.

The clap board was missing in the actual bus scenes. But the musical vids were made separately, which seems as a possible explanation.

Some of the location shooting did in fact use a clapboard, but a lot of time they didn't because there wasn't any scripted dialog, thinking that music or sound effects would be created and added later.
