A brilliant, yet highly underrated film

I think that this film is absolutely amazing. I don't care what other people say, and yes, I KNOW that most of it was thought up under the influence of LSD and other drugs, but it's still highly innovative and very enjoyable to watch. I love the randomness that is displayed throughout. I mean, come on, who would EVER think of having a midget photographer that somehow changes into a woodchuck? (Or whatever the hell that thing is....)

And the wizards. You can NEVER forget the wizards. They have the best scenes in the film!

I know you'll all call me crazy, but I think that this movie was their best! ^_^

Lots of people love it! only critics looking for a "proper" film and who miss the point slag it.
It's a great time-piece of the crazy 1967 summer of love-with great songs and some lovely stoned, trippy visuals. Don't look for plot, just enjoy it as a stream of conciousness and crazy ideas. If you're into psychedelia you'll love it

Yes, exactly! Couldn't have put it better myself!

I absolutely adore Magical Mystery Tour! It was the first Beatle movie I ever saw (maybe not the best to watch first, but whatever) and I fell in love with it from the beginning. I've actually seen it 17 times. Call me crazy, but I can't get enough of it. I can almost understand what the Victor Spinetti is saying when he plays the Sergeant. Scary, I know. But like I said before, I love it! Anywho, now that everyone thinks I'm a complete loony I'll stop.

"It's all in your head, y'know."

I find some reviews of this film ammusing, often they are headed with "I don't get it" if only they realised you're not really supposed to "get it" I feel for the dull.

reply

LOL-exactly what I was thinking.

I agree. This film is amazing. I read that originally, when it was aired and it got a bad reception, it was shown in B + W! This movie is amazing i just know i couldn't watch it without the colour! I like the movie because it shows the Beatles keeping it real, just having fun. Like when the little girl is sitting on John's knee in the "JOLLY WOOP" scene. Funny, good to see stuff. A highly enjoyable film.

Might have been better, though.

I'd have the old-peoples love scene removed and also the stripper. The rest of the film is still quite good.

Another fine monument of illogic by an author called Puukkoo.

That's cool that some people consider this their best movie, but really it was just a bunch of ideas thrown together. It didn't have any real continuity to it.

As film it's really only worthwhile viewing if you're a Beatles fan IMO. AHDN is the best, followed closely by Help!.

reply

old people love... ew. Yeah I always skip past that part in the movie.

Any society that would give up liberty to gain security will deserve neither and lose both.

The stripper scene is one of my favorite parts! Not because of the stripper, but because I absolutely love the song "Death Cab for Cutie". And because I find George incredibly hot in that scene...

I want...I want...I WANT EVERYTHING I'VE EVER SEEN IN THE MOVIES!

reply

Its not brilliant, its a load of nonsense strung together.

I loved the phrase 'you'll all' because I thought that I would never see it used. Yopu have used it in your post. I am autistic and obsessed with Undesireables (which includes that phrase). I'm sorry you hurt me.

Oh, you're so right! I love this film, in fact my friends say I'm totally crazy, but I don't care. MMT rocks!

Pull the string, pull the string!

I had some fun times with this album in high school! I remember my first time i had "fun" a giant tree was growing into the clouds that i saw looking through my window with the shades down and a little squirrel was at the top and he dropped a nut and it turned into a bomb that exploded with flowers! I remember i was listening to magical mystery tour at the time. What a magical night!

David Lynch is the man! Oh yeah and watch Twin Peaks TV series!

reply

It's actually vastly overrated. The rating & glowing comments here are hard to believe. - Keep in mind that I'm a HUGE Beatles fan. I love everything that they ever did...except MMT! I mean, just because we're fans doesn't mean that we can't think.

reply

Yeah, so you think that just because I love the movie means that I can't think?

I want...I want...I WANT EVERYTHING I'VE EVER SEEN IN THE MOVIES!

reply

The real question is, why are you thinking?

Always best to just turn off your logic machine when appreciating art, or when trying to enjoy yourself.
