Ben Johnson's killing of the prophet

All the prisoners in the wagon holler at Marshall Bliss, telling him to shoot the escaping lunatic, even offering to say he did his best to bring him in alive...and when he duly obliges they all look mesmorized. What is wrong with these people?

There's a big difference between goading a marshall to fire at someone and the actuality of the marshall killing an escapee: the prophet may have been annoying but he was escaping. Had they goaded the marshall and he did not fire, they would have had some hope of escape. Now they know they don't: and for many of them, there is a rope at the end of the journey...

"...there is a rope at the end of the journey."

Good point!

I don't know but the way he spazzed out after second shot was hilarious.
