The score in this film is so loud and oppressive. It REALLY detracts from the movie imo.

I'm watching this for the first time and I kinda agree.
Also, there's one theme that is a direct ripoff of "Younger than Springtime." Other small sections are "Bernard Herrmanish."
Just watched this straight through for my first time, and I agree with both of those references. And those two themes were probably the best parts of the score. The big main theme was all right at first, but I began to squirm after the next forty or fifty repeats.
