What if the John Prentiss character were white?

How would ANY parent handle their ditzy bubblehead daughter coming back from a Hawaiian vacation and announcing that she is about to marry a man she just met ten days ago? And bubblehead says that she demands they accept it and she's flying off to Geneva for the wedding. The whole premise of the film is off. Forget about race, your impulsive bubblehead daughter decides she's getting married after less than two weeks with someone. How can any parent support that? How unfair that the parents were forced to make a decision within a few hours.

People CAN and DO fall in love at first sight.

People can feel an attraction to each other at first sight. But love? That's a very naive and shallow concept of love.

That doesn't mean they need to rush to the alter, nor announce the engagement to one's parents and then say, "We are flying off tonight, adios MoFos".

I'm not sure the movie could have been made any other way. The whole idea was that the shock of black vs white would test both races would have been substantially diminished had both sets of parents realized their offspring were serious about a person from another race. The timing had to be very short.
