This movie made no sense!

Why would Scott kill his "idol" in the end? The relationship between Scott and Murph isn't that strongly drawn in the film to have us believe that he would be SOOOO upset at Talby killing Murph. This makes NO sense.
Also, was Talby as opportunistic as Murph made him out to be? He treated Scott with respect the entire time and took him under his wing.
WTF!?!

BTW...Gemma was extremely annoying in this film. It might have been the horrible English dubbing, but he gave a slightly retarded air.

The ending just messed up the whole film for me, Talby was dude who actually helped him when everybody treated him like *beep* thought him everything, and then he kills him? WTF!?

It was strange. I could see where they were heading in the story or trying to head but it was not quite right. Mary shot one man in the back, one man who was out of ammo then gave no mercy to the guy who made him. His old mentor worked with the bad guys and did nothing to help him really when he was everybodys whipping boy. I'm guessing there is a novel somewhere. In a novel the writer can tell you what someone is feeling and that's it but in a movie it has to make sense in a different way. This didn't quite cut it. I think they almost set up a good confrontation with a three way mind battle between the three of them but missed. How did that old guy become sheriff when Talby was now basically in charge of the town. The Judge was even willing to throw his loyalty his way, why would they make that old enemy of his sheriff and how would the rule of no guns in town suddenly appear? This would be a great remake if you fixed all that stuff at the end. Course Van Cleef is so good he would be very hard to replace.

Murph had been like a father to Scott for years before the film started. Also, Scott realized that Talby would likely get rid of him in a sneaky way since he was the only possible threat to him.

Yes, Talby was very opportunistic. He murdered several people in cold blood.

I agree. It looked like some kind of anti-fascist/pro-communist type message at the end. It all depends on your perspective and current time and place. Talby was like a Capitalist, Overman and the Old Sherriff wanted a more stable community with gun control.

For example, in Bolshevik Russia, after taking the guns, they killed millions of their own people. Talby's last lesson was interesting 'When you start killing, you can't stop'.

It all depends what type of people are running your town. Talby was brutal but he was only interested in money. For a western/American audience, he didn't seem like a bad guy at all. Maybe if Murph had explained his philosophy better, we might understand.

I agree that the ending was poor and that storyline illogical. There was no indication when LVC's character was kind to Scott that Scott would turn out to be fast and accurate, basically superhuman, with a gun.

Yeah, I think "Day of Anger" is great for the first hour and 15 minutes, but after that it just falls apart. The ending, with Van Cleef jobbing to Gemma, is especially unsatisfying and nonsensical as was mentioned above.

I really struggled to get through this one although it must be said that Mr Gemma sports a fantastic pair of knashers!Very poor film really although you can also see the "Dental Delight" in the slightly camp but infinitely more enjoyable "Archer Of Fire" from 1971.
