I know I will be scorned but if this was to have a remake

Who would be in it?

reply

Of course I know perfectly well that the original is one of the (if not the) greatest horror-comedies of all time but it was only successfull financially on a cult level. If it were to be remade full blow with comercials on every channell and some star actors and actresses who would be in it? I think the following is a good start.

Mel Brooks-Professer Abronsius

Ben Stiller-Alfred

Christopher Walken-Count von Krolock (this would be incredibly interesting and add to the character's mytique.

Sacha Baron Cohen-Herbert von Krolock (Perfect match. The gay vampire scenes would be incredible with him and Ben Stiller)

Any more or changes in the cast?

I know that Polanski himself said that he was considering making a version of the musical based on the film and he'd be the professor. But, after he's done with "Pompeii", we might have some news...

I would go with David Bowie as Von Kvorlock, Josh Groban as Alfred, and Amy Lee as Sarah.

Actually, the musical (Tanz der Vampire) has been around for a decade. It is in German, and Polanski himself directed it. You can check this out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dance_of_the_Vampires

It's my second favorite musical!

You have officially been scorned. No remake please.

If anyone ever would make a remake of this movie, then it would most likely be someone like this:

Sarah Shagal - Paris Hilton
Professor Abronsius - Steve Martin
Alfred - Hugh Jackman

for the assistant...Robert Sean Leonard, something about the face, from "House"
for the prof...Dustin Hoffman, WAIT! how about Wallace Shawn! for the nose!
the count...Ian McKellen
the count's son....Ron Eldard

If this was to be remade it wouldn't have the exceptional atmosphere this movie has. And it wouldn't have the same brilliant set pieces neither. The humour wouldn't be anywhere near as good in the remake. This movie IS one of a kind. The only vampire movies I can think of that can even come close to this movie in terms of atmosphere is the four Subspecies movies starring Radu Vladislas who is the most evil looking vampire I've ever seen. Radu Vladislas makes Barlow from Salems Lot look like a telly tubby in comparison to him. A remake of this movie would have no heart or soul!.

Yeah, but what if it was an adaptation of the musical, you know, Dance of the Vampires, I mean, it would make an amazing movie musical, even more so than Phantom of the Opera.

I would use this cast for the adaptation:

Count Graf Von Krolock...Thomas Borchert
Alfred...Lukas Perman
Sarah...Marjan Shaki
Professor Abronsius....Gernot Kranner
Chagal...James Sbano
Magda...Eva Maria Marold
Rebecca...Katharina Dorian
Herbert...Marc Liebisch
