can Not watch this in the winter!!

This movie makes me so cold from all the scenes of the snow and ice and bitter freeze....that I hate watching it in the winter time!

One of the coldest looking movies ever made!

I love watching this in the winter time, somehow it feels like a wierd kind of Christmas/holiday film to me. But I do agree the sense cold practically jumps off the screen at you. Best to watch it snuggled up with a fire going.

Interesting views.....and, maybe I will try the fire & snuggle method.

Watching it right now and was thinking the same thing. This movie really does have very chilly/winter holiday feel to it. I know its due to having a lot of scenes with snow and the bundeled up folks, but I think the lighting of the scenes plays a large part as well.

I saw this film many years ago in a revival on the big screen in the '80's, after only seeing the cut copy on the late movie on tv. I was astounded at the photography and the entire mood the film created. You really do "feel" the cold the characters are feeling.

I also think this is best watched in the winter, I have currently lent it out to a work collegue and I havent got it back yet! I'm really annoyed as I love watching this film over Christmas

Ah, but winter is the BEST time to watch it!
The first time I saw it was in the evening, after a six-inch snowfall. The snow had stopped, the moon was breaking thru ragged clouds, it was 20 degrees and the wind was howling. I had my bottle of Slivovitz handy, and I was THERE! I was IN that movie! Polanski grew up in Poland, so that's why it looks so authentic. It's a comedy, but with a strong undertone of severe creepiness; he could have made it into a masterpiece of horror, if he'd wanted to. I wish he had. One of my favorite movies.

hey, leroy-kingman,

Where do you think in your opinion he went wrong into "making it a true masterpiece???"

I like this movie too!

One of my all-time faves. I always watch it in the winter, the cinematography, lightning and music give it the perfect movie for a cold winter evening.

Brilliantly directed, acted and shot.

I love watching this at winter and I am sure I have watched it every year since I first saw it. I have noticed I tend to watch films like this and the Gothic Horror films by Hammer (the best Vampire ones being 1958's 'Dracula' and 'Brides of Dracula', 'Dracula: Prince of Darkness' and 'Kiss of The Vampire... incidentally films that inspired this one) from around Late September or October to about Febuary or March. It just seems like the correct time of year for me.

I do occasionally watch this in Spring or Summer though even if it doesn't feel as right. This is my favourite "vampire" related film just bellow (and I mean just) 'Dracula' (1959) and the two 'Nosferatu' films. I like the soundtrack one of the best as well and I am glad I have finally managed to find a copy (even if the tracks are credited wrongly).

I actually made it into a tradition to watch it every winter ;)
