I don't think so. As in humans, life gets in the way and good intentions often go by the wayside (sometimes regrettably too late).
Besides, the distance between the coast of Western(?) Africa and Inverness (where Loch Ness is) is several thousands of miles. Not an easy trip for anyone-man or beast in the 19th century.
I would hope such was the case for the snail.

You do realize that your statement as written negates the existence of the Loch Ness monster as well. Nessie and the great Pink Snail are cousins so if you deny the existence of one, the other is denied as well...are you sure you want to go there? :0)
